You Oughta Be in My Pictures

If the image that comes to mind when you think "St. Patrick's Day party" is one of ample Guinness and drunken renditions of "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling," you clearly don't know Patrick McMullan. The celebrity photographer (a protégé of Andy Warhol), chronicler of über-glam Manhattan for more than three decades, threw a party in the name of his patron saint last night, and the scene was anything but traditional. With a guest list peopled by the faces McMullan photographs at high-profile outings throughout the year, the party teemed with models, social climbers and other fixtures of the New York nightlife scene. DJ Gant Johnson kept the mood lively, as did a series of dancers in various states of (green) undress. Though the party space (the appropriately named Greenhouse, in SoHo) was beyond packed, anyone fortunate enough to have gotten inside knew better than to leave early. The people-watching (as curated by McMullan's trained eye) was exceptional—even by New York standards.

Armed and Ready

It's Armory Show time in New York and that means parties. The hottest one in town is the opening-night preview, followed by a swank after-party at the Museum of Modern Art. Among the attendees at last night's MoMA bash included Kim Cattrall, Mario Cantone and Indre and Justin Rockefeller, who joined fellow lovers of art to fete this year's offerings while dancing to the hot sounds of DJ Justin Miller.

Cumulative Effect

Princess Alexandra of Greece, Musician Britta Phillips and her husband, Dean Wareham (of the band Luna), were among the party-goers taking refuge from the Arctic chill inside the somewhat warmer confines of the Chelsea gallery twenty first twenty first last night to celebrate the unveiling of Cumulus Studios' new series of contemporary sculpture designed to resemble outdoor furniture. Other artists in the house included Piero Gorila, Azul Ceballos, Andrew Poneros, Stephane Simoens and Alex Amini. Also clinging to their outerwear to stave off the indoor chill were Artforum publisher Knight Landesman and gallerist Tim Nye. Fortunately, buffet stations serving fresh omelettes and a very busy bar kept temperatures (and temperaments) at eminently tolerable levels.
